A Nelson para-snowboarder has been named to the national team ahead of next year’s Paralympic Winter Games.

Gerrit Van Bruggen is one of five athletes included on the Canadian roster. The 34 year old, who is classified as lower limb two impaired, was ranked eighth overall in banked slalom and 10th in snowboard cross at the World Cup finals last season.

He also finished eighth in snowboard cross at the world championships, which were held at Kelowna’s Big White Ski Resort in February.

The Games run March 9 to 18 in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
