Nelson soccer teams win 7 gold medals at Kootenay Rovers Classic

Eight teams will also attend provincials

Nelson youth soccer teams won seven gold medals at the Kootenay Rovers Classic held last weekend in Cranbrook and Marysville.

The girls under-12, 15 and 17 squads each won gold, while boys U10, 12, 13 and 14 teams also finished first.

Two boys teams, U11 and 15, brought home silver while the U13 and 14 girls also scored silver. Bronze medals were won by a boys U12 team and girls U11 and 16 squads.

The tournament also served as provincial play downs.

Nelson will send three girls teams (U15, 16 and 17) and four boys teams (U13, 14, 16, 17) to provincials. A U18 boys regional team that includes Nelson players will also take part.

The girls’ provincials will run July 6 to 9 in Kamloops, while the boys compete July 13 to 16 in Langley.
