Nelson’s Ian Walgren has booked his ticket to the Special Olympic B.C. Winter Games next year in Vernon.

Walgren competed in eight races and won two of them last weekend at the Richmond Oval, which earned him the right to represent the Kootenay Zone of speedskaters.

After falling hard in a preliminary heat, Walgren rallied to win the 500-metre final. He also was first in the 333-metre race, second in the 222 final and third in the 777 event.

The Games are scheduled for February 2019, and will include athletes from B.C. and the Yukon competing in eight different sports.
