The West Kootenay Speed Skating Club held its annual 5,000-metre Skate-A-Thon on Feb. 15.

All of the skaters did extremely well. In the first group June Platje finished first with a time of 17 minutes 20.97 seconds, and Charlie Ludwar finished second with a time of 18:48.40.

In our L2T group Luke Platje finished first in 13:35.77, Tristan Phillips was second, and Oliver Ludwar and Dylan Boyes were third and fourth, respectively.

In our T2T group, Berend Platje was first in 9:51.01 ahead of Mercedes Phillips, Ian Walgren and Cameron Boyes.

Peter Plaunt of Rossland won the Masters group in 12:33.90. All of the skaters would like to thank the many people, family and friends who sponsored them for this 50-lap event at the Nelson and District Community Complex.

We wish all the best for Berend Platje and Phillips at the B.C. Winter Games this weekend.
