Nelson’s Atom Development hockey team was in Kimberley on the weekend to participate in a Tier 2 tournament, and came home as champions.
The team finished first during round robin play to advance to the finals.
They played teams from Alberta and BC and went undefeated in four round robin games.
Round robin results included Nelson winning 7-1 over Okotoks, 6-0 over Cranbrook, a 4-2 victory against Canmore and a 9-1 win against Kimberley.
In the tourney final, Nelson took on Alberta’s Midnapore Mavericks and won the contest, and the championship 6-1.
Bryce Sookro led the way for Nelson in the final, scoring two goals for the locals.
Other Nelson goals came from the sticks of Joe Davidson, Dylan Mowery, Drake Proctor and Mason Scott.
