Nelson’s Wamuna Fukada wins bronze at boxing nationals

Fukada competed with Team B.C. in Ontario

Nelson boxer Wamuna Fukada has captured a bronze medal at the Canadian Championships.

Fukada travelled the Brampton, Ont., for the Feb. 2 to 5 event as part of the 31-member Team B.C., which includes Nelson Boxing Club owner and provincial coach Jesse Pineiro.

Fukada, fighting at 54 kilograms, defeated Prince Edward Island’s Matthew Boyle by decision and settled for bronze after losing to Ontario’s Juan Luis Morales-Petit in the semifinal by stoppage.
