The Nelson Skating Club had 11 skaters travel to Kelowna to participate in the Super Series Starskate final on March 10 to 12.

Makayla Pickering wrapped up her 14 years of skating with a gold medal in Showcase 3. Pickering, along with Aili Bracket, also had strong performances in Gold artistic.

Kara Westerhaug and Raisa Nazaroff achieved silver ratings in Star 2 and Star 3 freeskate categories respectively.

We had phenomenal performances from all of our adult skaters! Julie Poetsch skated to gold in Gold artistic and Sarah Gower was awarded a silver.

Gower had a strong freeskate performance in Adult Silver and won gold. Jen McNutt had strong skates in both adult Masters Freeskate and Elite Artistic, and achieved high scores despite an injury.

Milo Jarvis, Paisley Jarvis and Vienna Ferguson had strong performances after all skating at a higher level for the first time.

Paige Vince and Tiia Bracket skated beautifully in Star 7 Artistic.

With the competitive season behind them, skaters are now busy learning new choreography and practising for the upcoming ice show in April. Watch for details on their Facebook page!

The Ice Show will be held at the Nelson and District Community Complex on Wednesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Tickets will be sold at the door and all proceeds will go toward Nelson Skating Club programming for the 2023-24 season.

There is one more competition for 3 of our skaters who head to B.C. Winter Games in Kelowna this Thursday. Aili Bracket, Taylor Singer and Kailee Stewart are all on their way representing the Kootenay region!
