Jean-Michel Landry and Rachel Schmidt each won the half marathon as a record number of runners competed in Nelson’s second annual Run Like A Mother on Saturday.

Landry won the men’s 21-kilometre race in one hour 18 minutes three seconds with a blistering average pace of 3:43 per kilometre. Schmidt meanwhile captured the women’s race 1:42.19, just over a minute ahead of runner up Jaclyn Dexter.

The event also featured five- and 10-km races, which began downtown and toured through Fairview and Bealby Point.

In the 10 km, Greg Kilroy won the men’s side in 42:2 followed by women’s runner Lindsay Hewson 48:09.

The men’s five km was won by Clay Winje in 21:48, while Tara Hoffman took the women’s side in 23:11. Hoffman finished just 37 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Courtney Dooley.

Organizer Alexandra Forsythe said 350 runners took part in the event, which doubled as a fundraiser for KidSport Nelson, Kootenay Kids Society and the Nelson Nordic Club.
