When the Nancy Greene Ski League wrapped up the season with the West Kootenay Zone finals hosted at Summit Lake, racers from the Whitewater Ski Team were on the podium once again.
“It’s been a phenomenal year,” says club president Paul Osak. “We’ve recruited the best coaches in the area, the kids are having a blast, and the race results are spectacular.”
The E1 team has more skiers and smiling faces than ever. The E2 team has been particularly strong with podium finishes in the last three races by Haley Mitchell, Oso Punchard, Jessie Thurston, Ian Corrie, Liam Jones, and numerous top 10 finishes by Ohia Wintraub, Cheyanne Stevens, Sunny Kerr, Arlo Henderson, Issac Gray, and Yashua Poitra.
At the K level the team travelled to Fernie for their second race of the season, taking on teams from Fernie, Kimberley, Windermere Valley, Yukon, Canada Olympic Park, Salmo, and Red. The athletes posted some impressive top 10 results.
In the K1 boys Kombi races, Harper Henderson placed second and seventh, Reece Walsh placed sixth and eighth, and Liam Osak placed tenth and 13th. On the K1 girls side, Linnea Sharelove finished eighth and Savannah Leishman finished 25th in both races. Madi Smith placed tenth and 15th in K2 girls.
The Ks next travel to Mt. Washington for the K1 provincials this weekend. Following that, Whitewater hosts the Kootenay K Zone Finals March 26 and 27.
