The Nelson Speed Skating Club is getting geared up for another fantastic season focusing on development and confidence building experiences.

The Nelson Speed Skating Club is offering a new 10 session camp program geared towards beginners and recreational skaters that don’t want to attend competitions.

The regular skating season for competitive skaters runs from October 4 to March 15 and provides an alternative winter sport for keeping fit and having fun.

The Skating Club has been in this community since 1997, and has seen two of its skaters move on to the Calgary Oval Program, with one of them qualifying to be a member of Canada’s National Speed Skating Team.

This October15 the club will be hosting its second annual mini-meet where speed skating clubs from Vernon, Salmon Arm, Kelowna, and Kamloops will be coming to Nelson to compete. Come down and support the team and see what speed skating is all about.

Like any sports organization these days the club relies on funds from a provincial gaming grant as well as devoting a fair amount of time to fundraising.

The club have recently used some of these funds for new equipment and have invested in some high quality speed skates that are available as rentals for those joining the club.

The club will be hosting a hot dog barbecue this Saturday outside of Home Hardware on Lakeside Drive. Come down and support the kids.
