Eight volunteers were recognized Thursday for their work within Nelson's sports community.

It was a little recognition for years of hard work.

Volunteers were feted at an event honouring Nelson's sports community Thursday. Eight people were awarded with plaques by Mayor Deb Kozak at the SportBC Community Sport Hero Awards.

The winners included: Glacier Gymnastics president Michael Stefani, Nelson Reflections head coach Erin Fitchett, L.V. Rogers girls rugby coach Scott Cormie, Nelson Squash Club president Pat Hodgson, High Altitude Triathlon Club registrar Carol Currie, Nelson Curling Club director Tracy Mozel, former Nelson Youth Soccer chair Chuck Bennett, and curling club volunteer Barry Marsh (Brent Pihowich accepted the award on Marsh's behalf).
