Nelson boxers travelled with Team B.C. for training and fights in Mexico last week.

Porter Hanson, Wamuna Fukada and Lola Brouillette were included among the 17 boxers on the provincial team, which is also coached by Nelson’s Jesse Pineiro.

Hanson, 14, earned two victories on the trip. First he stopped Mazatlan’s David Gonzalez in the third round, then on the second day of competition Hanson earned a decision against Nelson Chavez of Tepic.

Brouillette, 17, dominated Cynthia Escobar of Mazatlan, but was denied a second win against Adamaris Banda of Tepic. Brouillette was also voted outstanding female athlete by her coaches and peers.

Fukada, 18, came up short in his bouts against Pedro Guerrero from Culiacan and Bryan Lucas from Tepic.

Team B.C. finished with 17 wins and 14 losses in fights that included several members of the Mexican national team.
