TV deal for Soccer Quest; Nelson curlers at provincials

SOCCER QUEST GETS TV DEAL

Soccer Quest and Shaw TV are teaming up to film eight soccer coaching segments to air throughout April, May, and June. These tips will be based on a small-sided game format and can be used at all ages and skill levels of youth soccer. They’ll be broadcast on Shaw TV throughout the Kootenays.

Soccer Quest’s coaches and academy players will demonstrate various games that house and rep coaches can use with their teams to improve skills such as passing, communication, dribbling, shooting, and basic goalkeeping. These tips are from the Vancouver Whitecaps’ youth coaching curriculum to be used in the Soccer Quest summer camp programs.

BUERGE TEAM FINISHES THIRD AT PROVINCIALS

A rink featuring a Nelson curler finished third in the B.C. senior men’s provincial championship in Kamloops.

Trail’s Rob Ferguson rink, for which Nelson’s Mark Buerge plays as second, placed third in the competition, which wrapped up February 26. Ferguson went 5-3 in round robin play, then lost a semifinal match 12-5 to Richmond’s Greg McAulay rink, which then dropped the final to Kelowna’s Gary Gelowitz.

Castlegar’s Myron Nichol rink — which finished sixth in the eight-team event — also featured a Nelson curler: third Garry Beaudry.
