The hand might be mightier than the chainsaw.

Nelson martial artists punched, elbowed and kicked their way through timber Saturday at the annual Breaking Boards, Breaking Chains event held by Kootenay Martial Arts.

Pint-sized practitioners of Tae Kwon Do snapped through boards in front of a crowd at the group's new dojo on Lakeside Drive. The event raised $4,362 for International Justice Mission, a Christian organization that works to assist law enforcement around the world.
