The lack of fresh snow has not dampened the spirits of the Whitewater Ski Team.
The local team was out in full force on Sunday for the Rio Tinto Alcan Nancy Green Ski League race at Summit Lake ski hill in Nakusp.
With three teams competing from Whitewater against a total of seven other teams from Red Mountain, Salmo, and Nakusp, Whitewater’s enthusiasm for the sport of alpine ski racing was once again on display as they brought home a first place, and two third place ribbons.
“People need to know how much fun ski racing is for the whole family,” says coach David Oosthuizen.
“No other sport offers this kind of engagement for parents and siblings. The inside of the lodge was totally empty because everyone was outside joining in.”
Summit Lake Ski Hill has tubing and many families stayed long after the race to slide down the slopes and get silly. Conditions held up well and the Summit Lake team ran a smooth race.
The next race is on home turf when Whitewater Ski Team hosts the event on Sunday, March 3.
Local skiers are encouraged to come out and cheer on the team and their friends. It’s a chance see some great skiing and big smiles from kids of all ages.
