Two Castlegar organizations have received Columbia Basin Trust grants to improve trail networks in the area.

The grants are among 23 trail improvement projects in 18 communities and 42 trail crew jobs in 14 communities recently funded by the Trust.

The Castlegar Nordic Ski Club received $23,500 to develop two sections of connector trails totalling one kilometre and to install trail infrastructure such as benches and tables.

The Castlegar Parks and Trails Society (CPTS) received $17,000 to complete the final phase of the Grandwazoo Loop with the development of a 1.5-kilometre segment for beginner mountain biking and hiking.

They also received $20,423 to create two short-term trail work jobs.

Dave Sutton, our Trail Maintenance Director:

“CPTS is very grateful for this contribution from CBT and excited to keep expanding the trails in the Rialto network,” said Dave Sutton, trail maintenance director. “The Basin Job Experience grant also helps us double our maintenance crew efforts which is much needed now that we operate over 100 kilometres of recreational trails.”
