Prepare to fish around a little more for parking change.
City council voted Monday to raise parking meter fees from $1 per hour to $1.25. Council has passed three readings of the bylaw amendment, which technically still needs to be formally adopted at a future meeting.
The fee increase is expected to generate an extra $75,000 for the remainder of 2017 and $115,000 annually.
Riding the bus is also set to be a little more costly.
At the same meeting, the city approved a transit plan that eliminates multi-zone fares throughout the West Kootenay Transit system while increasing fares from $2 to $2.25.
Tickets books of 10 will now cost $20.25 instead of $18 while also removing age-based discounts. Monthly passes for adults were raised from $50 to $60, and discounted monthly passes were moved up to $45. Semester passes meanwhile dropped $100 to $125.
Finally, a policy was adopted for the city campground that limits maximum stays to 14 days. Longer stays are allowed on a day-to-day basis if there are vacancies.
That change comes after a Star report published in September found six people were living long-term at the campground, which is owned and operated by the Nelson and District Youth Centre.
