In Loving Memory ~
Shirley Mae Planden passed away at the age of 78 after a battle with cancer.
She was born January 26, 1946, in Creston B.C., to Mable & Vernon O'Niel. Shirley was 1 of 9 children and she spent her childhood in the Creston area.
At the age of 2 Shirley was one of the first children to be helped by Shriners Hospital in Spokane Washington. An experimental Surgery of Tenotomy, and in June of 1970 her name was placed upon the Roll of Honor for the charity work she had done on behalf of the Shriner's Hospital.
At the age of 14 her family moved to Blewett where at the age of 15 she met the love of her life Ted, and they were married May 31, 1965. Shirley received her diploma as LPN in 1965 and that career was short lived after her first trip to the morgue with an infant.
Shirely and Ted lived in Blueberry where their two sons, Trever, and Darrel, were born. They also lived in Edgewater before settling on the family homestead in Blewett.
Shirley worked at Woolco and then Walmart up until her retirement. She was well known for her years of charitable work with these two companies. Shirley was very family oriented and was always at the front when it came to family celebrations in Grannies Carport.
She did love a party.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ted, son Trever (Glenna),step grandchildren Ellyse, Greg & Carli, son Darrel (Jocelyn) and her pride and joy Bryce.
Our heartful thanks go out to the staff at Castleview Care Center for the care of Shirley, for the last 3 years and the Trail 3rd floor nursing staff.
There will be no funeral service, but a small family gathering later this spring.
