Nelson’s Glacier Gymnastics Team won 35 medals and three team championships this past weekend at the Flip Fest Competition in Spokane.
Eighteen local gymnasts competed against eight clubs from Washington and Idaho on Saturday and Sunday.
The gymnasts competing in the EXCEL category brought home the first-place team award for their collective highest overall score, while Glacier’s Junior Olympic Level 6 Team and Junior Olympic Level 7 and 8 combined team each brought home a second-place team trophy.
“This competition was a great start to our competitive season,” said Sandra Long, Glacier Gymnastics head coach. “Everyone had personal best moments and we were also able to identify skills that still need refinement.”
The next competition for the gymnastics team is the Glacier Judges Cup that the club is hosting in Nelson on Jan. 27.
