After more than 40 years of gentlemanly play, the Nelson Gentlemen’s Hockey League hosted its first ever league championship playoffs in late March.

Uptown secured the top title after defeating the X-Men 6-2 in the gold-medal game. Coleman Byfield scored a natural hat trick to lead the scoring, and Ian Perreault was solid in goal to help the team capture the win.

Uptown and X-Men are joined in the 35-plus league by Nighthawks, Roasters, Timberland and Wings. The Roasters took the win over the Wings for bronze, while the Nighthawks edged Timberland in the consolation game. Semi-final standings were determined by a two-group preliminary round robin.

Congratulations to all the teams for showing good sportsmanship throughout the season, and in their first ever league playoff.
