There will be four forums for mayor and council, one of which will include school board candidates

There will be four all-candidate forums in Nelson prior to the Oct. 15 municipal election.

Forum on climate and the environment, Oct. 5

This forum, for mayor and council candidates, is sponsored by the Nelson Chapter of the Council of Canadians, West Kootenay Climate Hub, and Nelson Doctors and Nurses for Planetary Health.

The focus will be on the future of climate and environmental action by city council. The questions will be decided in advance by the three sponsoring organizations.

The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Nelson United Church at 601 Silica St.

General candidates forum, Oct. 11

This event, to be held at the Wildflower School gym at 811 Stanley St. at 7 p.m., is sponsored by the Canadian Federation of University Women.

The forum will include local school board candidates as well as council and mayoral candidates.

Chamber of Commerce forum, Oct. 12

This forum, for mayor and council candidates, takes place at 7 p.m. at the Prestige Lakeside Resort at 701 Lakeside Dr.

Questions for the candidates will be developed by the chamber’s business community membership and the chamber board.

Candi-dating, Oct. 13

This event will take place at Torchlight Brewing, 125 Hall St., starting at 6:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the Nelson-Creston B.C. Greens, who say it will be non-partisan.

Mayor and council candidates will circulate to different tables for 10-minute intervals and answer questions from the public. The public is asked to bring their questions, and there will also be a handout with suggested topics.

There will be no speeches by the candidates and no public question period.
