Eric Lawson
Eric Lawson has worked in community media for 30 years as a reporter, editor, sales manager, general manager and publisher. He has worked and lived across Canada; prior to joining Black Press he was publisher of the Brandon Sun in Brandon, Manitoba. Lawson has been involved in community organizations throughout his career, including Rotary, the YMCA, Chambers of Commerce, and support for animal shelters. He has also been active in industry associations such as the Flyer Distribution Standards Association and Newspapers Canada.

Bill Metcalfe
Bill Metcalfe has lived in Nelson for 26 years. He started as a reporter for the Star in February, 2015. Before that, Bill worked as a freelance journalist for CBC Radio, The Tyee, the Vancouver Sun, Kootenay Mountain Culture and other media outlets as well as doing research and writing for a number of local organizations and businesses. He was also a manager and public affairs radio host at Kootenay Co-op Radio. Bill is also the manager of the Corazón Youth Choir.

Tyler Harper joined the Nelson Star in 2015 after having worked at The Canadian Press as a sports reporter in Toronto from 2008 to 2015. At the Star, Harper reports on a variety of subjects including affordable housing, the opioid crisis, poverty, municipal politics, the school district and local sports organizations. Adam moved to Nelson in March 2014 with his wife Brooke and kids Emerson and Aidan. He previously worked at the Edmonton Sun.

Marc-Andre Hamelin
Marc-Andre Hamelin moved from Whitehorse, YT to Nelson in 2007. Since moving here, he has worked in a variety of positions in the events and music industry including production, performance, marketing, sponsorships, and event coordinator. Marc started at the Nelson Star in 2016 and continues to enjoy living and working in the Kootenays.

Lucy Bailey is originally from the United Kingdom. She moved to Nelson in 2014 with her husband Brett and children William and Gracie.

I grew up in Chatham, Ontario. I am a Fanshawe College graduate in Graphic Design, as well as Personal Support Worker from St. Clair College. I joined the Black Press team in August of 2018. In my spare-time I enjoy creating digital illustrations and the outdoors.

Doug Rilkoff
Born and raised in Nelson and the Slocan Valley as well as a graduate of Selkirk College’s Digital Arts New Media program, Doug is as Kootenay as you can get. When he’s not producing content in Black Press publications, he’s out and about walking the rail trails and taking photos of all sights and wildlife he finds. His other interests include fishing, ATVing, video games (and sometimes streaming them), film, combat sports and generally living life in comfort and ease.

Ryan Boozer
Ryan Boozer is originally from the United States. She studied communications and graphic design at Kent State University in her home state, and moved moved to Nelson in 2015, making a detour through Alberta along the way.
