Eric Lawson
Eric Lawson has worked in community media for 30 years as a reporter, editor, sales manager, general manager and publisher. He has worked and lived across Canada; prior to joining Black Press he was publisher of the Brandon Sun in Brandon, Manitoba. Lawson has been involved in community organizations throughout his career, including Rotary, the YMCA, Chambers of Commerce, and support for animal shelters. He has also been active in industry associations such as the Flyer Distribution Standards Association and Newspapers Canada.

Gary Poignant
Gary Poignant is a newsroom veteran who has worked for 40 years at five media outlets in B.C. and Alberta. In his most recent post he was news editor of the Edmonton Sun.

Bill Metcalfe
Bill Metcalfe has lived in Nelson for 26 years. He started as a reporter for the Star in February, 2015. Before that, Bill worked as a freelance journalist for CBC Radio, The Tyee, the Vancouver Sun, Kootenay Mountain Culture and other media outlets as well as doing research and writing for a number of local organizations and businesses. He was also a manager and public affairs radio host at Kootenay Co-op Radio. Bill is also the manager of the Corazón Youth Choir.

Tyler Harper
Tyler Harper joined the Nelson Star in 2015 after having worked as a sports reporter in Toronto from 2008 to 2015. He spent most of that time at The Canadian Press editing and reporting on teams such as the Toronto Blue Jays and Raptors as well as a slew of different sports. Find him on Twitter at @tyler_harper.

Adam moved to Nelson in March 2014 with his wife Brooke and kids Emerson and Aidan. He previously worked at the Edmonton Sun.

Marc-Andre Hamelin
Marc-Andre Hamelin moved from Whitehorse, YT to Nelson in 2007. Since moving here, he has worked in a variety of positions in the events and music industry including production, performance, marketing, sponsorships, and event coordinator. Marc started at the Nelson Star in 2016 and continues to enjoy living and working in the Kootenays.

Kamala Melzack
Kamala has lived in Nelson for 10 years and has been a graphic design for over six years. She graduated from the Digital Arts and New Media program at Selkirk College with Honours. She enjoys photography, travelling, art and cooking.

Lucy Bailey
Lucy Bailey is originally from the United Kingdom. She moved to Nelson in 2014 with her husband Brett and children William and Gracie.

Office Manager

Barb Chapman
Originally from Vancouver, Barb Chapman was moved to Castlegar in 2009 by her previous employer to handle administration and office management duties for their engineering team involved with the construction of the Arrow Lakes, Brilliant and Waneta hydroelectric projects. She has recently joined the Nelson Star team to handle reception, ad booking and administrative duties. She enjoys outdoor activities including ATV trips with her husband Larry.
